After operating intermittently since early summer, Oak Harbor’s 1110 KRPA has been off air since Saturday. The station had been running a simulcast with 1340 KWLE Anacortes airing a Punjabi/South Asian variety format. Although KRPA had an application before the FCC to increase daytime power to 9 kW & add a 2.5 kW night time signal, the request has been put on ‘hold’. Owner New Age Media has run into zoning problems seeking out a new location to add multiple towers to accomplish this. In addition, the cost of San Juan Islands real estate coupled with the cost of a new facility requiring all new multiple towers makes this application unlikely as a build-out.
