  • I liked KTW a lot. I don't remember any jingles.

They opened every hour with #1, so I could hear The Supremes sing ''Where Did Our Love Go'' twenty-one times a day for two weeks in August 1964, when daytimers in Seattle signed off at 8:15 PM and KTW came back on three hours later, when KWSC signed off. I still love that record.

Washington State College became Washington State University in 1959, but the call letters KWSU weren't freed up until 1969. Wazzu got them, its FCC application beating W(ichita)SU's by three days.

I don't remember what years KTW played country music, but I won a beat-up LP, ''Porter Wagoner and Skeeter Davis Sing Duets''. It was all scratched up, no inner sleeve, and had red ballpoint writing all over the back of it. The receptionist just grabbed it off a stack, handed it to me and went back to what she was doing. So much for the glamour of radio.

    • You won? I'm jealous.
Radio contest? Every KTAC listener remembers the name Mary Jo Church. She must have had that home phone duct taped to her ear. She won multiple contests on KTAC.

  • I missed the KTW top 40 format. The KTW signal may not have covered my location in Tacoma at that time. I would be interested to hear any KTW jingles if there were any, or airchecks, if anyone has airchecks of this short-lived format.
