I had no idea that Kaye-Smith Broadcasting acquired BPI in Bellingham. I’m not sure who the seller would have been, but think this is the automation business that Rogan Jones began as IGM 20 or so years previous.

Mike,
Yes, it was bought by Kaye Smith. They ran it for awhile from Bellingham and then packed up for Seattle. We had Bpi for awhile in the early 80s. That was under SRO management. I thought it stagnant and replaced it with a voice tracking automation and live local morning. Then we went local live jocks morning and afternoon drive with satellite midday, evening and overnight. They tried to keep us by having Jay Albright come meet with me. He was at Kmps then and consulting with JR country. He took over Bpii music selection for Kaye Smith…..which was really only Smith by then I think. When Jones family sold Igm, I think it split…a guy named Ernie took the automation side and Smith the tape service. Either that or Ernie took both and then split the tape service to focus on making instacarts and go carts.

Steven – thank you for clarifying the evolution from IGM to 2 separate companies with divided services. Currently Jaye Albright is programming & consulting Classic Country “1520 KXA” which sounds good, but the library needs to seriously get beefed up as it doesn’t take long for “oldies burnout” to set in.
