While I realize this breaking story is somewhat out of market, I thought this new innovative approach to sports formatted radio worth a mention. As of today, Spokane’s 1510 KGA – which is easily heard here at nights & some days – had modified from an all-sports format to a hybrid of sports & hip-hop. All of the station’s new imaging liners & bumper music reflect a station marketing to a specific, younger demo with two distinct format choices blended into a single station. The station has just launched an FM translator – 103.5 K278CY. Nearby, 1380 KRKO & 1430 “The Brick” KBRC have also adopted hybrid sports/music formats. How much success KGA will have in the Spokane market with this approach remains to be heard & seen.
