90.7 KSER Everett was born from the ashes of 107.7 KRAB. Owner Jack Straw Memorial Foundation found itself strapped for cash & shut down KRAB & sold the commercial 107.7 frequency to Sunbelt Communications who launched KMGI “Magic 108”. With plenty of cash in hand, JSMF initially applied to the FCC for a time-share arrangement with 89.5 KNHC. This arrangement would have seen the two stations dividing up air time on the same frequency. The Seattle School District would have none of this & fought vigorously to prevent encroachment of 89.5, protesting successfully to the FCC. The feds eventually would issue the open 90.7 Everett assignment to JSMF who launched KSER. The station is a more polished, less radical & more accessible broadcaster than was the uneven, freewheeling, often amateurish KRAB. Programmer/hosts sound more coherent & KSER offers a better variety of community programming appealing to a wider audience.
