Local Talent on the KMO Country Giant Survey

I was happy to see three local artists on that chart.

With the moon landing less than a month away, Jack Broadwell’s loonie lunar lullaby, “Country Music on the Moon”, checked in at #18 on the Big Country Giant 40. Far too big for just one label, it was released on Cliffie Stone’s Newhall Records in Hollywood, California as well as the Spur label in Lynnwood, Washington.

Bonnie Guitar and Ira Allen were “bubbling under” with pick hits that week.

Ira Allen & The Renegades was the house band at The Riverside Inn on Riverside Drive in Tukwila. He and Billy Mize wrote “(Just Enough To Keep Me) Hangin’ On”, which was recorded by dozens of famous singers and known all over the world. He was married to Molly Bee.

Everybody knows Bonnie Guitar – the singer, the songwriter, the record producer, the record company owner and the talent scout. She signed The Fleetwoods to her Dolton Record label, and played guitar on “Come Softly to Me” and “Mr. Blue”.

Bonnie moved to Soap Lake, Washington and performed there until she was 92! She died there January 12, 2019 at age 95.
