Wanna bet? The birth of Sports Betting radio

With the advent of legalized sports betting in a few states & many more with proposals to allow this, Houston-based Gow Media has revealed the names for it’s debut entry into a radio network devoted exclusively to sports-betting.  It’s called The Bet’R Network & has already named it’s first affiliates in Las Vegas & Atlantic City.  Lotus Communications “920 The Game” KBAD Las Vegas will carry 10 hours of BetR Network programming on weekdays and five hours on the weekend, starting Aug. 5. In Atlantic City, Longport Media’s WBSS flip to 24/7 sports wagering programming as “Sports Betting Radio 1490.”  The network plans to provide the latest news  insights and analysis around the sports betting markets with access to select content from VSiN, the Vegas Stats & Information Network, and SB Nation Radio Network, which it owns and runs in a partnership with SBNation.com.  The fledgling network is planning to launch new programming on Aug. 5, including “Lombardi Line,” a three-hour weekend show hosted by former NFL executive Michael Lombardi.  With the legalization of sports betting in New Jersey, Longport Media President/GM Paul Kelly told  InsideRadio a 24/7 sports betting format is a natural for its AM station. “There’s a real appetite for sports talk that actually talks about sports. The Bet’R Network delivers expert analysis and information that listeners can use to make informed bets and cash winning tickets right here in Atlantic City,” Kelly said.  With more states soon introducing legislation to legalize sports betting, The Bet’R Network is hoping to add more affiliates in future.  While seemingly an innovative new radio format, it could prove to be too much for compulsive & addicted gamblers to handle.  Sports betting seems here to stay & Gow Media is banking on this to grow it’s new network.
