The company buying up the Cox tv stations, Apollo Global, has made overtures to Tegna, starting with contact made in a letter to the Tegna board last February. Apollo-Cox should get FCC approval for their deal sometime this fall. Now, Tegna, as well as Meredith, are being courted.
Tegna responded that the company is not for sale. The right offer may make the Tegna board members take a second look at Apollo Group. The Wall Street Journal reports that Apollo has continued to show interest in Tegna, despite being told NO.
Locally, COX owns KIRO 7, Tegna owns KING 5.
