    Sky Creek says:

In 1963 a local Seattle rock band, The Viceroys, had a regional hit titled “Granny’s Pad” released on Bolo Records. The song appears at #14, up from #40 (the previous week) on this KOL Seattle -Feb. 27th 1963 Top 40 Survey. “Granny’s Pad” was written by Al Berry the original keyboard player for the band. Berry developed the melody idea for the song while playing a piano at his grandmother’s house …thus, the eventual title “Granny’s Pad”.
(The Viceroys also featured their original guitar player Jim “Harpo” Valley, who eventually gained national recognition with Paul Revere & The Raiders).
Alan D. Barry, a long time resident of Whidbey Island and original member of The Viceroys, died August 30th, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Gerry.
