“So Im watching the 1939 film Gone With The Wind in HD on TCM, and as Sherman is coming into Atlanta they panned around the “city”….. theres an FAA Orange and white radio tower…… dang I guess radio made it into a civil war movie.” (KABC tower)
Someone else commented, “You can also see the KABC towers in an episode of Hogans Heroes.”

The Continental Army captured the airports from the British at either Valley Forge or Fort McHenry in either 1775 or 1812 (see the link to history below).
Although radio hadn’t been invented yet, towers were first built and painted garishly to frighten and discourage the witches who had escaped from Salem, Massachusetts hundreds of years before. The poor dears were lost and haphazardly flying their brooms around over Georgia, throwing Melanie Wilkes (Olivia de Havilland) and Scarlet O’Hara (Vivien Leigh) into tizzies. Not only that, the flying monkeys chasing Dorothy (Judy Garland) and Toto (Terry) in “The Wizard of Oz” had gotten off course and they were now flying over Tara and causing no end of environmental messiness.

It still happens as in the 2015 western The Warrant: Breaker’s Law. A well made movie including cinematography and script but that blooper just rips the viewer right out the time period. Just stupidly silly. Still loved the movie though.
