KOMO-TV, KIRO-TV, KCPQ, KING-TV, KONG, KZJO and KUNS-TV have switched to ATSC 3.0, the next generation terrestrial broadcast system which is designed to improve the television viewing experience. Developers say ATSC 3.0 provides higher audio and video quality, improved compression efficiency, robust transmission for reception on both fixed and mobile devices, and more accessibility, personalization and interactivity. Over-the-air viewers will need to rescan their tv in order to view these channels.

KIRO TV has lost two executive producers this month. Erin Newnam is moving to the Carolinas. Brian Kanziger split for WGCL-TV Atlanta.

Sinclair Broadcast Group CEO Chris Ripley, sent an email to staff this week, advising that there is no Santa Claus and that the company has frozen wages for 2021. The memo went out to all employees of Sinclair stations in Seattle, which include KOMO-TV, KUNS-TV, and radio stations KVI AM 570, KOMO AM 1000 and KPLZ-FM 101.5.

Happy New Year!
