    John Christopher Kowsky says:

Great times following Andy Barber on the air at KREM. Andy was not only a friend, but a very forgiving target for some of of his on-air associates. During his time at 97/KREM, it became necessary for Andy to go in and have some Varicose Vein work. Off air, this was thought to be the result of his weight lifting in the Control Room. Since he was going to be off air for a week or so, Andy came up with the idea that he should fein passing out during his show between songs, with the mic open. When the stunt was pulled off, it was explained that Andy was rushed to the Hospital for some serious malady. Of course everybody was talking about in town. The phones were ringing off the hook, with questions about the status and whereabouts of Andy Barber. Knowing what was the real reason for his absence, I finally had enough. When I had about my 300th call asking what had put him in the Hospital, I put the caller on air with his question, and responded “The Doctors have figured it out…he has Sickle Cell Anemia”. Of course, Andy was tuned in down at his Hospital Room, so when he was up and around, first thing he did was stop by my show. He opened the door to the Studio just long enough to say “My Mother would cry”.
We also had great fun when all-night jock/Staff Photographer Chainsaw Jackson took the nude photos of Andy for submission to Playgirl Magazine. When he was rejected that time, supposedly for needing to lose a few pounds, some of us on-air types explained to the listeners that he didn’t make it into the magazine due to a “size issue”. Which of course Andy immediately disputed on air. Not just great times. Probably the best times!
