Heather Roberts, Assistant News Director, KOHD-ABC/KBNZ-CBS, Bend, leaves Central Oregon, returning to KATU TV/Portland.
From her Twitter account: “As I prepare to move out of the area, I want to share some thoughts…
Over 15 years, you welcomed me into your homes and cars; allowed me to tell your stories. What began as a “2-wk” temp gig (KFXO, ‘06) accidentally turned in to so much more…
I never dreamed I’d get to work with such amazing people as I made my way from station to station, both on-air and behind the scenes… covering unforgettable stories: You ran for office and let me share your ideas; that amazing total eclipse; even Portland riots amid a pandemic.
Central Oregon, you helped raise my kids. You became our family. Your sites and sounds gave me joy … and sometimes – especially during every fire season – a healthy respect for the power of nature and the resilience of community.
Most of all, Central Oregon, I’m so damned proud of this team of #NewsNerds. You accepted this crazy idea to tell in-depth stories. And it succeeded because you love your community. This team will continue. Every. Day. Because these stories matter.
Because I’m a native Oregonian, I’m not going far (pretty sure it’s a law…). But I will have to change my Twitter handle. Family opportunities take us back to Portland and I’m excited to (re)join the @KATUNews team after a 21 year hiatus.”
