KNKX is the former KPLU FM, once operated by Pacific Lutheran University. A fundraiser brought $7Million needed to purchase the station which PLU was initially going to sell to The University of Washington/KUOW (2016). Orgaizers promised a base in Tacoma for broadcasts and studios are situated in the theater district, downtown on Broadway, across from Tacoma’s Broadway Center for the Performing Arts and close to the Tacoma School of the Arts.
