(TACOMA DAILY LEDGER) KGB, the Ledger – Mullins Electric Company radio broadcasting station, and the leading stations of Seattle, will here after observe a silent night on Thursdays of each week. The Seattle broadcasters met yesterday and completed an organization and agreed to the silent Thursday night program. The Ledger station is the only station now operating in Tacoma on regular daily schedule. It sent notice Friday to O.R. Redfern, radio inspector for the district, of its intention to observe a silent night Thursday of each week. The action of the Ledger station and the Seattle stations will afford radio fans in the Northwest an entire clear evening to listen-in on distant stations which the department of commerce suggested in a circular letter, published in the Ledger November 14. The department in the circular letter, which was issued by inspector Redfern to all stations in this district, said that the public demand for a silent night is developing to such an extent that it will no doubt be necessary to adopt a quiet period for listening-in to distant stations, and added that because of the fascination in listening-in on the distance stations, it is our opinion that the desire on the part of the public for local silent period will find ready response from the owners of most of the broadcasting stations. In the future until other regulations may be made by the radio inspector, KGB’s friends will have each Thursday night from seven to 9 o’clock clear, and with the Seattle stations also silent that evening, listening-in on distant stations is expected by radio fans to take on new impetus.
