COX/Apollo has sold off some of their tv stations while preparing for the purchase of some Tegna tv stations in Texas (CORRECTION). In Washington, FOX affiliates KAYU/Spokane and KCYU-LD/KFFX Yakima are now part of Imagicomm Communications, which is the spin-off of cable network INSP. KPVI, the NBC station in Idaho Falls, ID., and KMVU/FOX – KFBI/MyNetworkTV in Medford, OR., also go to Imagicomm, a company that has never owned broadcast television stations before. This deal to Imagicomm also includes a dozen other stations across the nation.

I guess I need a clarification on something. Cox/Apollo owns KIRO 7, correct? And Tegna owns KING 5 — and also KONG — correct? But if Cox/Apollo is buying Tegna, wouldn’t the FCC require that it divest itself of either 5 or 7? I can’t imagine the FCC being OK with a KING-KIRO duopoly…?

      Alan Lynn says:

Standard General is buying Tegna and then spinning off the big Tegna stations in Texas, but not KING or KGW in Portland or KREM in Spokane. They will belong to Standard, thus no duopoly issue with K5.
