TV Journalists Hawking Goods & Services For Profit?

Are tv news people joining the ranks of sports figures with commercial endorsements? KING 5’s Kelly Hanson shows off a dress she picked up from a clothing rental membership store. It’s a Twitter mention at this point, but she still represents KING 5 in public. Maybe there is nothing in the HR handbook about such a thing.

  • So many have bought into the idea that the world is ending in 12 years (now 10) that I guess pay isn't always a big consideration in career choice. ;)

  • That is a more expensive model (the phone) and that is status.

  • When she bought that phone, the big ones must have been out of stock.

  • You know if we shut off TV station transmitters around the country we would save megawatts of wasted energy?

  • Kelly Hanson works for marketing/creative services dept. at King, producing promos and a feature franchise called Local Lens. Not really a King News reporter. In many markets these days, usually far smaller than Seattle, pay is so frustratingly low, side hustles are the order of the day, usually for makeup and clothing (men's styles, too). It is also possible that she has a approved trade deal with the clothier as a promtional consideration, because station-paid clothing allowances for talent are mostly extinct, even in Seattle. Just offering some background.

    • We do know there is no loyalty to the employee from corporate. With low pay, maybe there has to be a side hustle. What is happening in other markets is that on-air talent has the side hustle going. That doesn't say much for the wages in those markets either.

    • Right. A selfie taken at a mirror, that shows the camera, is lame in the first place. If the photo is worth taking, have someone else hold the camera. As for the pose, she has the assets. That won't always be the case. She is making the most of what she has.
Not that there is anything wrong with that...

  • No selfie to share, just a tip of the cap* to Hanes, for the shorts I'm wearing while posting this. (*cap is courtesy of New Era.)
