When I bought KBFW it was a 1kW daytimer. When the FCC decided in the '80s that they could rescue daytimers by giving them a bit of nighttime power, we were allotted 91 watts. On a night without skywave it was not bad right inside Bellingham. On nights with skywave way too much could be heard in the background. Soon after we went to 500 watts directional at night. Much improved. I cannot imagine much coverage or value in 12 watts night regardless of daytime power.
12 Watts after sunset might be a problem for me hearing two of my favorite DX catches at night: KBMS in Vancouver WA and KEJB in Eureka CA “The Jukebox”. I've been able to completely null out Bremerton on 1490 from West Seattle until now, so hoping to do the same on 1480.

The paperwork filed with the FCC indicates the new KBRO signal will only make it as far as the Pierce County line, so Lakewood and Tacoma will lose a signal. Putting a stronger signal into Seattle is the goal here.
Over 70 years ago, KBRO battled with KTNT over the 1400 allocation. When 1400 moved to Silverdale in the '80s and became KITZ, the competition hastened the end of KBRO as a viable local media outlet for Kitsap County. Now KBRO will pick off the 1480 assignment. The ghost of Mrs. Bartley gets her revenge...
Ah, 1480... the home of KFHA, KOOD, KQLA and a few other call letters for fleeting moments. Never a money maker but plenty of memories. So long, you old coot. OK, pull the plug.
