KGB 760 & XTRA 1360/San Diego Switch Frequencies Tonight

• 1360 in San Diego (KLSD) has a 5k day/1kw nights NDA tower in California. The southern part of San Diego. While there are dozens of radio stations based out of Mexico, 1360 isn't one of them, neither is 760. KGB-AM (now 760) was once KFMB-AM, owned by the same company as KFMB-TV, Channel 8 and KFMB-FM (100.7). 1360 has had a slew of formats and calls over the years, but its most famous as KGB-AM. It was also KPOP, KPQP and the infamous KLSD, when the station picked up the Clear Channel endorsed Air America liberal radio network. Air America failed, but so did Clear Channel/iHeart's attempt at sports. In the early 00's, pressure on the FCC caused Clear Channel to divest itself of 6 "leased" stations, including 690 XETERA. The sports formats were split over 1360 (KLSD) eventually and in L.A. on KLAC (570). Since iHeart (formerly Clear Channel) owned KGB-FM all along, they had no trouble returning the KGB calls to one of their San Diego AM stations. Smartly they chose 760 - (5k days, 50k nights) but have opted to not make use of the calls, instead referring to the station as "San Diego Sports 760". The other issue is that San Diego has no less than 6 sports stations available in English- and more when you add in the Mexican Spanish sports stations, and yet only two talk stations...only one talk station being sort of local. KFI has a potential audience larger than any San Diego talk station-as it's live from 5am-10pm.

• How to ask Alexa to get 760 San Diego Sports. Before you just said Alexa play xtra 1360 San Diego Sports, and it came on. It doesn't with the new 760, on Alexa.

  • That's good to know. Alexa does need training and it may just be the update hasn't filtered down. Sometimes, Alexa doesn't understand what I say, I think she has selective hearing.

• When 93.3 KUBE flipped to branding as KJR, while those call letters legally stood at 95.7 FM, it was another example of branding confusion.
  In McCleary (branded as Olympia on air) KYYO-HD2 brands as KGY.
  Nothing is really as it seems. We are all part of the Matrix.

• FCC records show 1360 San Diego as KLSD. What a crazy trip! Branding as XTRA or whatever they want to call themselves, so be it.

• How IRONIC .... the "Conservative" broadcasters that have been on San Diego (physically based Station and Antenna) on KFMB/KGB 760AM, will NOW be broadcasting from a Frequency that's Transmitter and antenna in MEXICO!! Yes, that's RIGHT (pun), 1360AM "Xtra" now The Patriot (Mexican Patriot?) has ALWAYS BEEN in Mexico! The Once Music then Sports XTRA 1360 has never been a K____ call sign radio station, because MEXICAN stations can't use K___ or W___ call signs, even if they are owned by a American (iHeart) Corportation.

• 760's Call letters were changed to KGB(AM) on 7/4/2020. It hasn't been branded as KFMB since then.

  • WRONG ... there are HUNDREDS of references and websites that STILL called 760AM KFMB since 2020, EVEN iHeart Radio web pages!

  • Thanks, Todd. As for three-letter calls, I have always felt that stations should have hung onto them. That is a personal preference. KGB! Now, if they only played the Oldies.

• 760 KGB is branded as KFMB. Why? Why is the sky blue? Radio just happens that way.
