January 1976 – The rockers are back to their old tricks, stealing disc jockeys. KJR this week hired Gary Lockwood away from KING-AM, placing him in the afternoon time slot, 2 to 6 PM.
Lockwood replaced Scotty Brink who had been the ace housewife‘s friend this time around at KJR. Brink had not been happy under the more-music format. Steve West, KJR program director, said Lockwood‘s performance at KING got him the job. “He was doing the kind of work we wanted done. Lockwood is an entertaining communicator.“ West effused. Brink will announce his career plans shortly. Lockwood‘s departure opened the way for Andy Barber to return as KING‘s night disc jockey. Barber, formerly at KING, had been hovering at the Spokane sister station, KREM.
