January 1976 — Just as Tacoma listeners were getting used to the new KTAC FM call, KBRD, along comes KTNT FM with new format and new call letters. Ed Dollar, KTNT radio program director, said the format is adult contemporary. Music tapes are supplied by Broadcast Programming Inc. of Bellingham. Music direction might best be typified by the Bee Gees, sort of like the last KOL-AM format. The new call letters are KNBQ. “The letters don’t stand for anything,“ Dollar said. “The Q is the most significant letter of the whole thing.“ Dollar hopes the Q Sound will remind listeners what they are listening to. Q is hardly unique in this market, however: the familiar KBIQ, Edmonds-Seattle and Tacoma‘s new TV station KCPQ. KNBQ has an 18 hour broadcast day. Sundays, KNBQ and KTNT AM will simulcast.
