January 31, 1988 – — A new format and call letters are due Monday on 97.3 mHz. Tacoma’s KNBQ is to become KBST (pronounced K-Best), with a carefully researched format of “top songs of the ’50s and ’60s.”

— “The Lost Lennon Tapes,” an hour review of Beatles and John Lennon music, has begun at 8 a.m. Sundays on KZOK, 102.5 mHz. The syndicated series is from Westwood One.

— Bill Stairs is the new program director of KRPM-AM-FM, replacing Lee Rogers. Stairs has worked at other Olympic Broadcasting stations in Fresno and Spokane . . . Rogers said his band, “The 106 Hot Licks,” may continue to represent KRPM at local events.

— John Langan, morning man, and KISW parted company; Greg Cook, morning man, and KMGI parted company. Neither station had immediate replacements.

— Daily readings of the book, “Wilbur and Orville,” begin on “Radio Reader” at 10 p.m. Friday on KUOW, 94.9 mHz.
