VICTOR STREDICKE January 26, 1989 – Mike Siegel, afternoon talk-show host on KING-AM, 1090 kHz., is among more than 20 national radio-talk-show hosts outraged that congressmen might “not-vote” their way into a 50 per cent pay increase
Siegel, the new guy at KING-AM and still working out of a suitcase, has vowed not to leave the King Broadcasting Co. complex, until the end of a national tea-bag protest. The National Taxpayers Union is endorsing the drive, which includes talk-show hosts urging listeners to mail a tea bag to Washington, D.C.

Oldie, but a goodie

Sky Walker, afternoon personality, has been named program director at KVI, replacing Dick Curtis, who continues as morning-show host. Curtis, who had held the position since May 1987, said he would devote more time to his morning show. Walker has worked at radio stations in Colorado and Texas as well as several in this state. He previously was at KJR and had been assistant program director at KPLZ before moving to Spokane’s KKZX. When he returned to Seattle in 1985, he became assistant program director and afternoon-drive personality at oldies-format KVI. — Feb. 3 marks the 30 anniversary of the death of Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Richie Valens. To mark the occasion, Sky Walker will broadcast his Friday’s KVI disc-jockey show from Holly’s home town, Lubbock, Texas. Walker will use the facilities of KLLL, Lubbock, and include interviews with friends and musicians who once played with Holly. Walker lived in Lubbock for seven years, where he became a Holly fan.

Focus on the evangelist

The family psychologist and religious broadcaster who probed Ted Bundy’s mind, Dr. James Dobson, conducts a daily radio program, “Focus on the Family,” heard multiple times in Seattle. The half-hour program is heard weekdays at 9 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. on KCIS, 630 hKz.; 9:30 p.m. on KCMS, 105.1 mHz.; and 4 a.m., 7 a.m. 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. on KGNW, 820 kHz. Two stations also carry a one-hour review, “Weekend Focus on the Family,” on Saturdays at 10 a.m. on KCIS, and 2 p.m. on KGNW. The stations receive Dobson’s programs on tape on a weekly basis, but on occasion the Pomona, Calif., production company will preempt supplied programs for time-sensitive issues. Dobson supplied an edited videotape of his conversation to the television networks. A spokesman said, however, that there has not been time to think about incorporating Bundy-related material into the radio program.

Twisting the dial

— Delilah-Rene this week returned to nighttime at KLSY-AM-FM, 1540 and 92.5, after a short daytime sojourn at KJR. She resumes a soft-rock disc-jockey show from 7 p.m. until the “Lights Out” segment after 9 p.m., when requests and dedications are featured . . . Jerry Kay, veteran radio personality, has rejoined KJR as midday host. Kay’s career has included periods at KJRB, Spokane, and WLS, Chicago . . .

Heritage Broadcasting has added the title of president of KRPM-AM-FM to Jack Davies, general manager of the country stations . . . Bob Hogan has been appointed general manager of KJR and KLTX. He will continue as acting general sales manager of the two stations, which he has held since Oct. 1987. Prior to KJR, Hogan worked at management and sales in Houston and New Orleans.
