Fourteen hours after we reported on the Herald laying off half its staff, The Herald ran its own story. That story was published at 5:29 pm Wednesday. By Thursday morning, the story was pulled down.
Former staff and readers were livid. A news organization censoring itself? The Herald publisher, Rudi Alcott, who lives in Maple Valley and operates out of Kent, said to one of the former Herald editors, it was not his decision, but the article “smacks of an incredible hit piece.” Read MORE at MyEverettNews.com

Staging a one day solidarity strike, per the Guild, there was a march of pickets thru Everett to the paper today (Monday-24th) led by newsroom staffers, who were joined by some elected officials and community supporters to protest the layoffs there. This short excerpt from the Seattle Times:
Around 20 participants held signs with statements reading, “AI can’t replace us,” and, “Say ‘no’ to union busting,” among others, while chanting sentiments like, “Union busting is disgusting.” The group received many honks from drivers in solidarity.
