New hire at KIRO 7

Steve O. writes: Briseida Holguin has been removed from the KIRO News Team site. But KIRO added Brandon Thompson. They lay off then add two new reporters recently. KIRO is imploding.

** Yes, it truly is a revolving door at the tv news operations in the PNW. KIRO is the latest and due to cutbacks within the COX chain firings will continue pending sale of stations. Brandon Thompson started his career at Grand Junction, Colorado’s KREX 5 News and then moved to Colorado Springs’ FOX21 News. Most recently, Brandon reported and anchored for KOIN 6 News/Portland. Briseida Holguin was previously with WMC Action News 5/Memphis and started her career in Tri-Cities/Yakima at KNDU/KNDO. She hails from the Los Angeles area. Maybe she will land a gig somewhere in Southern Cal.

Director Tom Westarp, is retiring this week after 29 years in the booth at KOIN 6/Portland.

Tim Pham @ KREM 2/Spokane: “I used to wear bow ties on-air, should I bring them back?” Do you care what the newsreader is wearing? Apparently, some critics do, as news anchors and reporters continue to get hate mail regarding their make-up or neckties, or lack thereof.
