Plenty of fun on the airwaves Wednesday. KVI, in a burst of civic patriotism and self promotion (or perhaps I have the order reversed) offered to pay the toll charge for any car going across the new Lake Washington bridge – – provided, naturally, the car radio was tuned to KVI. Well, KFKF jumped into the act, pleaded with everybody to tune in on KVI and head for the bridge. So did KOL and a couple of other stations. The idea of course, was to up the cost for KVI, which it did – – but no bankruptcy hearings are scheduled. KVI picked up the tab for 2651 cars during the hours of 7 to 9 AM and 4 to 6 PM, including a few truck and trailer rigs with transistor radios. Total cost for the promotion $516.85. KVI, you see, got the $.19 commuter rate.
