    Steven Smith says:

Typical Herald they got Bill Hamelin’s name spelled wrong. He is a close friend and has told me about the day he drove to the KENY transmitter and knew something was wrong because its tower light was not flickering in the distance. When I was the engineer there 1974 to 1999 when there was a failure and I had to go to King mountain in the dark I was always relieved to see the tower lights. My understanding is that nobody actually unhooked the guy wires. The field was desolate and even when I was there hunters were common. In this case vandals took target practice on the brown porcelain insulators on the guy wires. Shoot a few out and, without evenly distributed support, with any kind of wind the tower topples.

      Lou Robbins says:

Seems like the cops would have discovered that the towers had been shot at, rather than concentrate on “wrench marks.” Jim Rockford and Lt. Columbo must not have been assigned to this case.
