NewsBreak 2-5-25 — The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is opening an investigation into Audacy San Francisco all-news radio station KCBS after a host revealed details of where ICE agents were operating in the area in late January.

During the weekend news, an anchor revealed that ICE agents were conducting operations in eastern portions of the Bay Area, which included details of the make, model, and colors of the unmarked vehicles being used in the operation.

Communications Daily 2/6/25 — The FCC is investigating Audacy’s KCBS San Francisco over the station’s broadcasting of locations and identifying details of vehicles involved in an undercover Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation in January, according to a Fox News report that quotes FCC Chairman Brendan Carr.

NY POST 2/6/25– Federal Communication Commission (FCC) chairman Brendan Carr said it’s “really concerning” that a radio station backed by left-wing billionaire George Soros broadcast live locations of undercover Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Carr’s FCC is looking into San Francisco-based KCBS 740 AM, which has come under fire for revealing live locations of undercover ICE vehicles and agents that were conducting deportation operations in the area.

January 27, 2025–Steve Scott/Bret Burkhart and the crew at KCBS radio spent some time on the air this past weekend announcing locations for ICE agents in the SF area. ICE was doing their job, KCBS was working harder than it usually does, providing some investigative reporting.


I called KCBS and was told the station is no longer actively making such reports. This is something the FCC is certainly going to be made aware of. Maybe the FCC should look at this when it is license renewal time.

    There’s no FCC rule that would apply to this. In this case, the court of public opinion rules. The Communications Act prevents the FCC from regulating broadcast content, with only a couple of narrow exceptions. Besides, Trump says he’s for free speech. If it applies to X, it should apply to KCBS.

      I’m certain it can be argued that KCBS broke US laws — and in doing so, puts the license in jeopardy.

      The statutory definitions of the other human smuggling offenses laid out in Title 8 § 1324 include:
      Subsection 1324(a)(1)(i)-(v) prohibits alien smuggling, domestic transportation of unauthorized aliens, concealing or harboring unauthorized aliens, encouraging or inducing unauthorized aliens to enter the United States, and engaging in a conspiracy or aiding and abetting any of the preceding acts.

      Any person “who knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States in violation of law, conceals harbors, or shields from detection, or attempts to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection, such alien in any place, including any building or any means of transportation.”

      Harboring illegal immigrants is a federal crime for which everyday people can find themselves doing serious jail time for “just trying to help”, but what constitutes harboring? Is it illegal to help an illegal immigrant, or does harboring mean specifically housing an illegal immigrant? The cost of KCBS/Audacy to defend these acts could easily cost a few of them their jobs. It is stupidity on display at KCBS.

        The Department of Justice has announced that it will be investigating the Oakland, California mayor who tipped off illegal immigrants to an ICE raid.
        Mayor Libby Schaaf tweeted out an impending warning of the raid last week, giving illegals time to “Get out of Dodge” before Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials arrived.
        The raid led to the arrest of 232 illegal immigrants, 180 of which were convicted criminals or who had come back to the U.S. after being deported.
        But, ICE says because of the mayor’s warning, hundreds of illegal immigrants with violent and sex-related convictions evaded capture and deportation.
        Schaaf remains defiant, saying she issued the warning “to protect public safety.”
        —Oh, plus there is the backlash from the general public against KCBS. And that was all over X that day.

        One can attempt to justify this behavior. We will see who wins that argument.

          At around 6:05 p.m. PT, @KCBSRadio, a prominent Bay Area radio station, reported live the vehicle descriptions of three alleged undercover @ICEgovERO @ICEgov vehicles in east San Jose, an area with violent Latino migrant gang activity.

          The information put the law enforcement officers at serious risk while an operation was ongoing targeting violent, criminal foreign nationals.

          It seems there was a full-scale public effort in San Jose to clear the already dangerous, gang-infested area of criminal illegals. But on top of that plan, there were reportedly undercover operations in play that KCBS exposed—and if these reports are true, they should lose their broadcasting license.

          But this reported undercover radio reveal isn’t surprising. Politicians have been vowing to break the law to protect criminal illegals for ages. And now, with President Trump armed with a clear and vert strong mandate from the American people, they’re really cranking up the rhetoric like never before.

          Many are now asking if KCBS is one of the radio stations owned by Soros. After all, it was recently reported that the Soros family has been snapping up radio stations at breakneck speed.

          BNN Bloomberg:

          Audacy Inc., the bankrupt radio broadcaster, won regulatory approval for the transfer of its licenses to a nonprofit funded by billionaire George Soros, paving the way for the company to emerge from Chapter 11.

          Under the restructuring approved by the court in February, the new, closely held company will be controlled by the Fund for Policy Reform, a Delaware nonprofit, according to an FCC filing Monday. It will be governed by a four-person board, including Alexander Soros, son of the billionaire investor.

          FCC approval arrived nearly seven months after courts backed a reorganization plan that handed control of the company and its 200-plus stations to creditors including Soros Fund Management and wiped out the old shareholders. Audacy’s exit from bankruptcy is expected within days, the company said.

          The transfer of the licenses was opposed by two FCC members, Brendan Carr and Nathan Simington. It also faces scrutiny from Republican lawmakers concerned about the senior Soros’ role at the company.

          Republican Representatives James Comer of Kentucky and Nick Langworthy of New York, both members of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, announced an investigation into the FCC’s approval proceedings last week. They said the agency overlooked foreign ownership concerns to facilitate Soros’ ownership stake.

    Interesting move by KCBS. I suppose once they face hindering/aiding charges things could change. Not sure why anyone would want a bunch of illegal criminals allowed to ply their criminal trade in the US especially while receiving taxpayer funded benefits. Truly a bizarre scenario. I for one welcome the deportations having had a friend repeatedly burglarized and myself personally being a victim of said crime.

    -The way to make them hear you isn’t to post on X, but to ask their advertisers to pull their content until KCBS makes a public apology and agrees never to do anything like that ever again.
