Dick Ellingson says:
KGEZ, in 1966, ran Hemingway at 7:15 P. M., right after Fulton Lewis III and right before “Tops in Pops”, which I got after about a month. Until then, I was just writing copy from nine to five. One day, the G. M. told me I had to come back and ride the board for a half hour at seven. Between Lewis and Hemingway there was a live dollar-a-holler for some snake oil and there were two personal testimonials, like “I swear by this product, I’ve used it for years”, so I added “It says here”.
I had to insert three recorded spots into “Hemingway” with no cue sheet. The boss said to just listen for the pause. I was three for three, coming back in the middle of a sentence. The next day, nobody said anything.
