Frank was a folksy, whimsical radio and television newscaster who was prominent on Los Angeles airwaves in the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s. Hemingway had a loyal and amused following in his years on the air, often reading news items in the dialect of the country involved.

Before arriving at KABC, Frank worked in Bend, Oregon and Portland. He retired in 1972.
Frank passed away June 25, 1989, at the age of 86.

You will see the name Frank Hemingway on many of the radio program schedules here at QZVX.

    Dick Ellingson says:

KGEZ, in 1966, ran Hemingway at 7:15 P. M., right after Fulton Lewis III and right before “Tops in Pops”, which I got after about a month. Until then, I was just writing copy from nine to five. One day, the G. M. told me I had to come back and ride the board for a half hour at seven. Between Lewis and Hemingway there was a live dollar-a-holler for some snake oil and there were two personal testimonials, like “I swear by this product, I’ve used it for years”, so I added “It says here”.

I had to insert three recorded spots into “Hemingway” with no cue sheet. The boss said to just listen for the pause. I was three for three, coming back in the middle of a sentence. The next day, nobody said anything.
