January 1, 1930 Seattle Times

EAST-WEST CONTEST IN SOUTH IS SCHEDULED BY KVL; SHRINE BANDS IN HALF-HOUR PROGRAM
All the afternoon, from 1:30 until 4:30, reserved on KVI’s schedule, the day after New Year Day gridiron classic at San Francisco. This is one of the season’s football finals, and since “Bald Billy” Greger of Washington will be in the thick of it, Seattle fans are particularly interested.
Greger has been given a guard position on Coach Josey’s team of Western all-stars, who will clash with Eastern all-stars.
The Post-Intelligencer and associated Hearst newspapers, in cooperation with the Don Lee and Columbia networks, have arranged for the radio broadcast direct from the field. Ernie Smith of the Hearst radio service, and Ted Husing from New York, are the announcers, each to cover the quarter.
Preceding the game, scheduled at 2 o’clock, Shrine bands will be heard in a half-hour program, KVI broadcasts on 230.5 meters (750 kilocycles) …
Music of many nations and New Year greetings in thirteen different languages will be on the air tomorrow from 7 to 9:30 o’clock in the morning. The program is a special featuring the Columbia chain coming from New York via KVI. Columbia’s shortwave station, W2XP, will rebroadcast for Europe.
Musical units to be heard include Columbia’s French trio, Peter Biljo and his Russian Gypsy ensemble, Emery Deutsch, Hungarian orchestra, the Spanish orchestra, British actor, and the Dixie Echoes …
KJR’s management has announced twenty hours continuous broadcast today, beginning with Henri Le Bel’s organ recital at 7 a. m., and there’ll be a chance for tubes to cool until 3 o’clock Thursday morning. The evening event will be the hour studio jamboree, in which the entire staff is going to participate.
The Dore Sisters, a vaudeville team, have two other programs. All of Henri Deinski’s concert ensembles have a place on the schedule, and Zac Kalbacus’ Honeymooners are listed in a variety of specialties.
The Tournament of Roses football game—U. S. C. vs. Pittsburg—will be broadcast by KOMO and associated NBC stations, beginning at 1:30 p.m., Graham McNamee and Lord “Mike” duty.

DISMISSAL ASKED OF KJR APPEAL
WASHINGTON, Dec. 31—(A.P.)—The radio commission today filed a motion for dismissal of the appeal of the Northwest Broadcasting System, Station KJR, Seattle, against a charge of change in its license.
