CBS moves to O&O in Atlanta
Details of Atlanta switch for CBS
*** The move aligns with CBS and Fox’s overall plan of owning stations in markets where there is also an NFL team they broadcast, given both current broadcast rights agreements. With the move, WUPA will broadcast select Atlanta Falcons games.
*** The move “is part of CBS’ long-term strategic efforts to leverage the full power of the CBS stations portfolio and local assets across major markets in the U.S. in service of the public interest, delivering the highest-quality local news and culture-defining content to the seventh-largest DMA in the country with 2.8 million TV households.”

I think Cox ought to acquire KSTW and have a duopoly with KIRO.
Apollo Global Management Inc. is looking to exit the business of broadcast television and radio.
The New York-based alternative asset manager has hired Moelis & Co. to help it explore a potential sale of Cox Media Group, including its portfolio of local broadcast television and radio stations from Atlanta to Seattle, according to people familiar with the matter.
A sale could value Cox Media Group at about $4 billion.
So, it is unlikely we would see a duopoly unless Paramount/CBS purchased KIRO.
It's all about the retrans folks. If CBS owns the station (in any market) they don't have to split the retrans with the local station. I think it's that simple.
Therefore, based on the CBS long-term strategic effort to leverage the full power of the CBS stations portfolio and local assets across major markets in the U.S, KSTW is the obvious place for CBS in Seattle.
It's not 1960, over-the-air transmission is not a major issue with everything going to online streaming. So, 11 >7, to borrow from a bumper sticker.
I would like to see CBS return to and remain at KSTW 11. CBS owns it and it makes sense, based on the CBS plan to line up stations in markets where there is also an NFL team they broadcast. We will be watching for an announcement. COX will dump KIRO and the new owner will either vie for a major network affiliation (ABC, NBC) or attempt to survive on a diet of off-network favorites and infomercials.
Alternatively, with COX putting KIRO on the market, CBS could buy KIRO. Either way, there is potential for a network/ownership shuffle ahead in Seattle.
