AIR LINES: Viewers can look forward to three solid hours of stimulating fare each Sunday afternoon beginning next month when KIRO-TV televises the William Buckley and David Susskind talk shows back to back. Buckley, the conservative spokesman whose column appears on the editorial pages of The Times, will be represented on Channel 7 with his hour-long Firing Line series beginning April 16. Buckley’s syndicated show, in which he debates such diverse personalities (usually of opposing political views) as Norman Thomas and Steve Allen, has proved an attention-grabber in the 22 cities in which it is now televised. The Buckley show will air at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, with Susskind’s two-hour talk fest preceding it at 1 o’clock, beginning April 23. In order to bring the Buckley and Susskind shows to Seattle viewers at an advantageous hour, Channel 7 is passing up C. B. S-TV’s Sunday-afternoon telecasts of national soccer play. It may be a blow to soccer fans, but most viewers will feel welcome the move to add the Buckley and Susskind shows to the sabbath schedule.

Dick Ellingson says:
Intelligent talk without screaming and name-calling.
Even when I disagreed or didn’t understand their points of view, David Susskind and William F. Buckley Jr. made me feel temporarily smarter.
Buckley also appeared on The Seattle Times editorial page.
