KING 5 Meteorologist “retires”

After years of standing in front of green screens, forecasting storms, and connecting with communities, I’m officially stepping away from my role as Chief Meteorologist at KING 5 and local TV news. My last show will be on the first day of summer, this Friday June 20th.
Calling it a “retirement” feels right… but also a little misleading. The truth is, I’m not done dreaming, creating, or showing up – just doing it in new ways.
I’ve been incredibly lucky to spend this chapter doing what I love, with people I admire, in a country I care deeply about.
To my colleagues, mentors, and viewers: Thank you. You’ve let me into your homes, your lives, and your hearts. And for that, I’m endlessly grateful.
Now it’s time to chase some long-held passions: I’ve started a small production company to help reign in all the ideas I’ve had swirling about; a YouTube series devoted to ski travel, public speaking, writing, voice work and who knows… maybe even more acting.
The forecast? Bright, with a chance of anything. 😎
Stay tuned… this is just the beginning.
Always Looking Up,
– Mike (Everett)

  • I hope Mike Everett finds a great and satisfying career of his choosing and making. He definitely had more personality and spunk than most (if not all) meteorologists in the Seattle area. He seems like he had a bit of "Hollywood" in him.
To Mike, keep shining, no more teeth whitening necessary. The future looks bright.

  • Will miss (?) Mike Everett's thumbing a ride in the direction of the day's weather (that always present thumb in the broadcast). Maybe the Cascades skiing was not to his liking? Maybe King Mgmt. got themselves out of a possibly expensive contract (per minute on air?) Hey Mike, how about retiring that thumb at least!

  • Keepin it classy, channel 5. Now Mike Everett?
    Shame on you.
All the others who have just ‘disappeared’?
    Shame on you.

  • Retirement?! Rich Marriott was a meteorologist before this guy was even born.

    • I have to give him credit for doing what he believes in. Sometimes, management will make the decision for you:
In March 2022, Mark Wright found himself at a professional crossroads. He had been a news anchor at KING 5 for 11 years. Given the opportunity, Wright said he might have worked at the NBC affiliate until he retired. But management had other plans.
“They came to me 60 days before my contract was up and said we’re not renewing you and that was it,” said Wright .
