Determined Colorado reporter moves to KOMO 4; KOIN anchor reveals hearing struggle in documentary

INCOMING– A new General Assignment reporter at KOMO 4: Tyler Cunnington was a multimedia journalist at KRDO NewsChannel 13 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he worked as a dayside and nightside news reporter from June 2023 until this month. Prior to joining KRDO, he spent nearly two years at WICZ Fox 40 in Binghamton, New York, reporting on news and sports, anchoring, and occasionally covering weather. Cunnington graduated from Ithaca College in May 2021 with a major in Sport Media and minors in Journalism and Sport Studies. He grew up in Yorktown Heights, Westchester County, New York, and attended Yorktown High School.
At KRDO, Cunnington covered a wide range of stories, including breaking news, feature stories, and investigative reporting. Notable reports include a 2023 exclusive interview with the survivor of a triple-murder suicide in El Paso County, coverage of the Return to Nature Funeral Home case featured in an Investigation Discovery documentary in February 2025, and stories on local issues like a sealed ballot envelope concern during a June 2025 special election in Colorado Springs. He was known for highlighting community stories and addressing serious local issues, such as the Club Q mass shooting memorial controversy and an attempted burglary at an RV park in Manitou Springs.
Cunnington is passionate about sports, particularly lacrosse, and enjoys watching both professional (PLL) and collegiate games (supporting Syracuse). In his free time, he goes to the gym, listens to music, plays the drums, and engages with social media, particularly memes. On June 20, 2025, Cunnington announced via X that he would be leaving KRDO to join KOMO News, as a General Assignment Reporter starting in July. This move fulfilled a vision he had set a year prior.

Jeff Gianola
Jeff Gianola is a veteran news anchor and reporter for KOIN 6, the CBS affiliate in Portland, Oregon, where he has been a prominent figure since joining in August 1998. With over 40 years of broadcasting experience in Portland, Gianola is a recognizable and award-winning journalist, known for his down-to-earth style and community involvement. He began his career as a teenager at KGTV in San Diego, working his way up from a grip to assignment editor, writer, and producer. In 1980, he moved to KEYT in Santa Barbara as a reporter, covering President Ronald Reagan’s ranch visits, before joining Portland’s KATU (ABC affiliate) in 1983 as a reporter and weekend weathercaster. He became KATU’s evening anchor in 1985, co-anchoring with Julie Emry for several years, and later moved to KOIN 6.
At KOIN, Gianola has anchored evening newscasts and hosted “Wednesday’s Child,” a segment credited with placing hundreds of foster children in adoptive homes, earning him significant recognition. He founded the Wednesday’s Child Foundation to support foster children with opportunities like camps and sports. His reporting includes impactful series like “Unsheltered Truth” (2018) on Portland’s homeless crisis and a 1990s project living on the streets to highlight homelessness. Gianola has won multiple Emmy Awards, including Best Anchor in the Pacific Northwest, and was inducted into the Northwest Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ Silver Circle for over 25 years of contributions to local news.
Gianola has also appeared as a TV reporter in films like The Hunted (2003) and Birddog (1999). He hosted KOIN’s short-lived lifestyle show “Quick Tips for Easy Living” in 1999 and CBS Weekend News in 2020 during the pandemic.

Gianola has been open about his struggle with Meniere’s disease, which caused profound hearing loss, and shared his journey in a 2025 KOIN report after visiting Tucker Maxon School for hearing-impaired children. “I first began to go deaf several years ago when I developed Meniere’s disease, which damaged my inner ear and affected my ability to hear.” (KOIN 6)
