KQDY call letters not available? Comcast says “no deals” for longterm customers

OUCH! Is Olympia getting a UTI?…word on the street is the KUTI call letters are coming to 680/Olympia. KBRD (BJ & Skip’s’ For the Music Foundation) moves to 920 in July. 920 was KGTK, a huge failure, guns and radical-right talk…On the other hand, the delightful music of KBRD will be in a better place, with a better signal and an FM translator at 106.5 in July sometime…Northwest Rock N Roll Preservation Society is set to program 680 AM with call letters KUTI and will likely be an Oldies music outlet for Olympia, with an FM translator at 101.1 FM in the Olympia-Tumwater-Lacey area. Oldies on AM radio, as they were meant to be. FM for stereo effect. Some of the music on KBRD is nearly 100 years old. But not old and tired…Maddie Janssen said goodbye to Bakersfield NBC-KGET this week to spend more time with her family. Janssen joined the station in 2009. The “spend more time with family” excuse is old and tired…First female reporter at KPNX in Phoenix, Diane Kalas, has died. KPNX says “She never had any experience in TV or graduated from college. But since Kalas was in high school, she always knew she wanted to be a reporter.” You could say, Diane Kalas is going home to spend time with more of her family. Rest in peace, Ms. Kalas…

COMCAST update: Comcast has devised 3 Internet plans with no data caps, low first-year price and 5 years at a set rate. What happens to current customers satisfied with current plan but suffering with data caps? Data caps, and no option for unlimited data unless you add Xfinity mobile. Interesting to note that Comcast, or Xfinity as they call it, says the new plans have no caps and NO HIDDEN FEES. Is that a mea culpa from Comcast/Xfinity regarding previous cost manipulation?

Calling 800-Comcast, a gal in the Philippines answers and reads per the script on her screen. “No, there is no information regarding those $55 plans.” They are not available she says, in her best broken English. The alternative is a fabulous new NEXTGEN promotion which would drop the price by $3. I about fainted! Glory be, what I could do with those three dollars. Momma, grab the children, we is goin’ to that buffet restaurant for celebration!

There are no unlimited data options for current customers. The only such option includes Xfinity mobile. Comcast locks customers into a maze with no exit. Always double-check your phone and cable tv bills for hidden costs, added fees and bogus charges. Stay strong!

With the passing of veteran radio blogger, Michael Easton, I looked around at the boarded up and abandoned radio-tv blogs. Many have closed shop. Rich Lieberman remains in San Francisco. Lieberman gave up on writing and now vidcasts several times a day. These “podcasts” are available on his website and YouTube. Lieberman calls the SF radio & tv people bastards and retards and reminisces about the golden age of Bay area media. Lieberman breaks a few stories now and then, the Chronicle and SFGate his only competition. Is a post about radio or tv really a breaking story anyway? It’s amusement for your daily read, information you can use, at best. Lieberman becomes animated and angry in the course of his daily vidcasts. It may amuse a few, but it becomes tiring. I preferred his written blog format, skimming it quickly to judge the content. You can check him out at 415Media.
