DON USHER at KJR during the Golden Years (Ted Gamble’s ownership of the station)

DON USHER grew up in Seattle, graduated from Queen Anne High School, attended Yale, started doing on-air work at the radio station there, and dreamed of becomiing the second Edward R. Murrow.
His entry into radio in the Puget Sound region was at KVOS Bellingham. Rogan Jones hired Don Usher. When Jones fired him the day after a company picnic, Jones told Usher he had a great career in front of him.
Don worked a short time at KBRC, near Mt. Vernon.
Arriving in Seattle in late 1954, Don started doing weekend remotes at KJR. Usher also did two early tv shows at KOMO 4, “Bashful, Barefoot, Bill Lee Show” (a cowboy program) and “The Video Game.”
After a short stint at KWJJ/Portland, Don was called up to KRSC by Elroy McCaw. Don produced a video for Boeing, a documentary about the Boeing 707 entitled “Year One.” Don then spent 16 years at an advertising agency in New York. He returned to Seattle as Business and Economics Editor at KOMO 4 until his death by heart attack on January 6, 1990 at his Bainbridge Island home.
