Winners and Losers

Listeners to Salem Media stations will be hearing “The Scott Jennings Show”, a new daily program on the conservative network. Beginning Monday, July 14, the show will air weekdays from 2:00 to 3:00 PM ET on the Salem Radio Network (SRN) and be available on demand via the Salem Podcast Network (SPN).
The Salem press release says: Jennings, known to millions as the rare conservative who wins debates inside the lion’s den of CNN, will bring his signature fire and facts to the Salem lineup. The program replaces The Jack Posobiec Show in the SRN live broadcast slot.
“We’re going on offense,” Jennings said. “Every day, I’ll take calls, interview big names, and take the fight directly to the liberal machine. It’s time to bust the narratives and bring back some plain old common sense.”
“Scott Jennings is a disruptor,” said Phil Boyce, Senior VP at Salem. A former White House Special Assistant to President George W. Bush and veteran of four presidential campaigns, Jennings is a strategic insider with real-world political firepower.

Dave Randall

This week, Dave Randall ends a successful 40-years in radio. Dave Randall received nice words from Sommer Frisk, Vice President/Market Manager, Cumulus Media Ventura. “… He’s not just a great broadcaster—he’s a great man. And while we’ll miss his voice, we’ll miss his presence even more.”
Most recently, Randall enjoyed his days at Adult Contemporary 95.1 KBBY and Classic Hits 103.3 FM. (Ventura, California). Long ago, he launched his career at 101.1 K-Earth Los Angeles. Not bad! Stops along the way included Long Beach, San Diego, and Oxnard.
Randall said, “I’m humbled to have entertained over this medium. The true fruit of one’s work is in the response, years down the line, when people say they enjoyed listening. More than anything, it’s gratifying, and I am thankful for that.”
Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? Sounds like Dave Randall had a fulfilling career.

Rick Boone

To the contrary, this week, short-timer Rick Boone was fired from his Assistant News Director position at KIRO. His resume showed that he was going to be a problem. The man couldn’t hold down a job, never stayed in one place for very long. Four months at KIRO! A history of short stints at stations prior to that. In his two previous positions, Boone lasted less than two years. KIRO should have realized what they were getting when they hired Boone.

Rick Boone is now News Director of NCWLIFE, a website for Wenatchee area news, the Wenatchee World newspaper and a streaming service that goes with that operation. This is the career spiral many have predicted for Boone, a short-timer at tv stations he has worked for previously. Maybe it is incompetence, a personality issue, or maybe ineptitude. Possibly, the lack of sufficient ability, power, or means to perform the required tasks of being a News Director, beyond the small market.
