TACOMA - Tacoma considers long-term safety plan, including 'alternatives' to police response (News Tribune) The strategy still calls for "effective" responses to violence and property crimes, but encourages alternatives to better connect people with community resources.
My hometown was once a major sea port, "boom town" rivaling Seattle, later a hub for thugs and crime and this is the plan (?) Blue state-Progressive state of mind. I disown Tacoma, but have the memories of "the way we were."
. . . grocery shopping in the Phoenix area…You knew when the retirees had received their social security checks by all the liquor in their shopping carts.
Come September, Jim always had his line about back-to-school specials at The Liquor Barn.
Re: 1560 KNZR Bakersfield
Back in the '40s and '50s, in north Seattle, I listened to KPMC 1560 Bakersfield.

Believe it! They are giving away one (1!) coffee mug and all 305 KIXI listeners are competing for it. It would've been two (2) but for those pesky Chinese tariffs on crummy mugs.
I think I can hang out and listen to KIXI music for most of Saturday. I will let you know if I score a nifty KIXI mug.
Classical music intermixed with sounds of nature

Broadcasting from Tokyo since 2007
No music when I tuned in. Just bird sounds and running water. Is the station operated by a urologist? Bitcaster operates from Japan. The operation is Voice of the Planet. Some poetry now. More running water. I'm out!
Those tinkly splashy sounds will be a comfort to those with edema who will be losing access to their prescription water pills.

Resignations today (11/9/25) of BBC Director General Tim Davie and News CEO Deborah Turness came after a whistleblower report alleged that clips of Donald Trump’s words were altered and broadcast, just ahead of the U.S. presidential election, to make it seem that he explicitly called for violence at the U.S. Capitol on Jan 6.
The Beeb did not comment beyond Davie’s and Turness’ statements.
Carol Cleveland is being sought out for a proposed dramatization.

83 years ago (11/7/40) the Tacoma Narrows Bridge rocked, flopped, and collapsed.
Thanks to https://www.thebdr.net/ for the reminder
We forgot to synchronize our calendar watches. Gertie's last gallop was 85 years ago.
Tolls on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge have been collected since the original bridge (Galloping Gertie) opened to traffic on July 1, 1940. The bridge collapsed on November 7, 1940, but toll collection resumed on the replacement bridge when it opened on October 14, 1950, and has continued uninterrupted since then to fund construction and maintenance. This year marks 85 years from the initial start of tolling.

"Feel all the feels . . . ?" MSNBC to MSN-Ouch ad blitz
“When I watch the ads, I feel all the feels of hope, of community, of unity, of what I think about what it means to be an American citizen in this moment,” said the network’s president, Rebecca Kutler.
Martin Sheen will appear in an ad as Jed Bartlet or maybe Jeb Bushlet.
Rachel Maddow notes: "A lot of people just call us ‘MS’ anyway." Whaa?
