Stokke first worked in Seattle at KJR [1955] In 1958, KFKF went on the air at 1330 AM and Dick Stokke was just one of the former KJR personalities to sign on to the new station. Station Manager was Bill Coben. Also working at KFKF were Jay Ward and Jim McGavick, both ex-KJR jocks. Another KFKF jock: Bob Summerise, popular DJ throughout the 50s and 60s, attracting teens and adults too, with new jazz and popular music programs he hosted at KFKF and stations such as KQDE, KAYO, KZAM, KYAC, KTAC and KTNT.

In 1964, Stokke moved over to the 910 KIXI news department and at the same time 1300 KOL. The lineup at KOL included, Ron Bailie, Jerry Holzinger, Ray Hutchinson, Ray Ramsey and J.J. Valley.

By 1965, Stokke was back at KFKF and off the radio by the end of 1966. During the span between 1966 and 1969, Stokke reportedly accepted a position at Brooks-McKnight Chevrolet [Stredicke column April 1973] while filling-in at various Northwest radio stations.

LAME! — In 1970, Stokke ventured down to Tacoma and took a gig at KTNT AM 1400. Stokke’s part-time on-air thing at KTNT was scheduled to go fulltime in June. But, a couple weeks prior to the start of his regular evening shift, Stokke was involved in a fender bender during a station promotion and ended up with cuts and broken bones. To add insult to injury, “as part of a cost-cutting measure”, the Dick Stokke evening program was cancelled, with the remaining KTNT staffers extending their shifts to cover the 7pm to 1am hours.

Also in 1970 — KTVW ran a weekday stock-market news program produced by Rockwell Hammond and hosted by Merrill Mael. Dick Stokke and, later, Joe McCusker read the news. Hammond leased six and a half hours a day from KTVW and originated the program.

The 70s — Dick Stokke – Actor. Stokke appeared in various dinner-theater productions in Seattle.
