Cannon KTAC PD, Rob Sherwood replaces Cannon, Cannon to KAMT and on, and on, and…

1979 …KAYO, once the #1 Country music station in the USA, losing listeners to KMPS, faced an ownership/format change. Initially, new station owners, Obie Communications, seemed to favor Ryan & Linton as the morning team. But, Bob Hardwick, forever remembered as the morning personality at KVI, was chosen to help make-over the ‘new’ KAYO. That failed. Hardwick was offered a deal at KTAC Tacoma and became the new morning personality there. After about 6 months, Hardwick ended up back at KVI and Obie filed suit against Hardwick over the non-compete clause in his contract with KAYO. KVI threw money at KAYO. KAYO went away, soon after switching call letters to KSPL and changing from country to ‘popular standards.’ While that may have been Special for awhile, KSPL could not make enough headway in the ratings and the shine had long worn off 1150 AM….
TWISTING THE DIAL – Slim, is the newest addition at KNBQ. She formerly jocked at KLAY Tacoma and did disco-dj work on the side. [real name: Leslie Neilsen]…Mark Jeffries, former KJR personality, moved into radio sales [ account executive ] at sister station KISW…
Bruce Cannon hung up the headphones after nearly a decade at KTAC, taking a position as an account exec at Entercom/Tacoma. Cannon estimated that in his 3000 days at the board he had played approximately 144,000 records and 120,000 commercials. [That’s a heavy commercial load] And that advertisers had spent over $3 million in advertising on his afternoon air shift…Cannon also hosted a weekly TV show, Life In The Fastlane. It aired on Channel 11. It was a community-oriented interview program focused on teenagers… A new Pacific Stereo electronics store opened near the Tacoma Mall. Fabulous prizes were given away, including a night on the town with a KTAC DJ, dinner and a major concert. All transportation provided by KTAC.
1980…After a short stint in sales, Bruce Cannon became Program Director at KTAC…
1981…Rob Sherwood, KIOI San Francisco, becomes Program Director at KTAC, replacing 13-year station veteran Bruce Cannon. Sherwood brings in new morning personality Ken Copper, also from KIOI.
1983…Bruce Cannon became Operations Manager at KAMT Tacoma in 1983. His duties also included an afternoon show there. KAMT was formerly KMO…
