Among my responsibilities as news director at KMO in 1966 was setting up the gear and engineering Breakfast With McMurtrie, which aired each morning from the Winthrop Hotel. One of my predecessors, Paul Berg, a youthful KMO announcer, had the same task several years earlier, before going on to some measure of success in Seattle: Pat O'Day.
Burt was a colorful character, and a popular Tacoma air personality and columnist in the 1950s and '60s.
