A recurring rumor, a disturbing one to the morning radio addict, has Dick Whittinghill relinquishing his present spot on KMPC (6:05-10) and moving into the afternoon. After all, a guy can’t begin his day at 4 a.m. for the rest of his professional life. Without doubt, Whittinghill is the best, most versatile morning disc jockey in the country.
If he vacates the morning show, KMPC is certain to get clobbered by Bob Crane, Robert Q. Lewis and Al Lohman…
And has KHJ placed commentator Joe Dolan at 11:05 p.m. because it feels he is too controversial? Dolan conducts the finest program on late-night radio and his new time spot is absurd.
And is it true that “if” Dick Whittinghill makes the change, KMPC will do everything possible to lure Bob Crane away from KNX?

EXPENSIVE REPAIR

December 1962–A $100,000 traffic damages suit against disc jockey Dick Whittinghill was settled for $22,000 Monday in Superior Judge A. A. Scott’s court. William Blair, 39, driver of a cleaner’s truck, charged he was struck by Whittinghill’s car in a Palm Springs intersection Jan. 28, 1961.

From an April 1964 Don Page media column in the Los Angeles Times… We are in receipt of a petition with 50 signatures demanding the return of Dick Whittinghill’s saga of love and heartache “Helen Trump.” When asked if there is a possibility that Helen will return, Whittinghill remarked wistfully, “I miss the old girl as much as everyone, but I’m afraid she has played her last trump.” Lines like that killed the soap opera.
