May 1976 – The quintessential morning man of the late 1950s and early 1960s is a morning man once again. Al Cummings joined the KXA staff last week. “I guess I can confess at last to being a closet Classics listener,” Cummings said, “In the privacy of my own home I have been known to lock the door and play Bach maybe even a little Mahler.” Cummings has of late been a college student and a college instructor. He’s back in radio because he loves it. “It’s something like the guy who discovers he can make money in ceramics. It’s fun if you don’t overdo it.” Cummings’rambling manner is meant to be warm and conversational, but he knows he can also be abrasive. “If you want to see an uptight bunch,” Cummings chuckled, “Classics listeners are so diffident.” Cummings says he tries for only a horseback approximation while pronouncing unfamiliar composers names or foreign title selections. Cummings’ hours are from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. weekdays.
