Oregon Daily Journal – August 8, 1962
An equal number of ballots was cast for KPOJ’s ‘Fenwick’ and “all KISN DJ’s.” Because my contest was limited to finding the “most objectionable deejay” (singular), the first prize of a package of steel phonograph needles and scroll goes to the indomitable Fenwick.Only one vote behind Fenwick were two KEX disc jockeys—Jack Par and Barney Keep, who tied for second place. Fenwick beat them by a crystal set catwhisker.
Runners-up were: Bill Wade, KPOJ
Doug Baker, KWJJ
Ken Chase, KISN
Larry Kilburn, KPOJ
Tom Murphy’s Buddy, KISN
Roger Hart, KISN
There was a scattering of ballots for: Johnny Williams, KISN
Bill Davis, ex-KGW
Ted Rogers, KEX
John Salisbury, KXL
Frank Benny, KISN
…and one lone vote for the KEX “Trafficcopter,” which the entrant said he “couldn’t understand.”
One late entry is worthy of mention: “The worst DJ in the Northwest is not from Portland but Salem,—John Kline.” There was a P.S.: “I need the publicity.” It was signed, “John Kline.”
