On Dragnet, Joe Friday and his partners Ed, Ben and Frank were always having to borrow somebody's phone.
In real life, we had a family friend who was a locksmith and had a complete shop in his Metro van, including a dial phone - a private line! We had just gotten our first home phone, a four-party line. This was in the late 1940's and it was amazing.
