The founder Icicle Broadcasting, which once owned three radio stations in Wenatchee and Chelan, has died. Born in 1924, Harriet Bullitt passed away early Saturday, April 23.

Bullitt’s passing comes weeks after KOHO 101.1 FM fully transitioned to a smooth jazz simulcast music format, resulting in sweeping layoffs of its staff; and months after it sold KOZI AM/FM in Chelan and Z-Country 94.7.

  • The Bullitts didn't hesitate to sell KING AM and KING TV in Seattle to a private company. There was better money from the major corporation than to donate the stations to a charity. But this is Chelan/Wenatchee, so this station, one that should really matter in the COMMUNITY, is donated to a charity and then swallowed up by NWPB. There will be no local programming. KOHO will be simply a translator station for NWPB. And Bullitt is praised for her philanthropy. Good one.
Organizations such as NWPB and K-Love are where local radio goes to die.
