Tacoma [August 13, 1973 AP Report]– A disc jockey arrested during a Tacoma radio station broadcast has been charged in Pierce County Superior Court with possession and sale of marijuana.
Tacoma police arrested the announcer, George Farquhar Heard, 25, while he was broadcasting Friday from KLAY, an FM station which broadcasts progressive rock at night. The broadcaster told listeners the station was signing off “due to technical difficulties.”
Heard’s bail was set at $5,000. Two others were also charged with marijuana sales in connection with the arrest.

  • I met him once IN 72. He just started at KLAY a couple of weeks before that. He had just graduated from Bates where he was a newsman at KTOY-FM. I guess he and his partners got handed down a 5 year sentence. They were paroled after 18 months. Clay Huntington told the TNT he will not be returned to his broadcasting job. Huntington was shocked. I understand that two months later another KLAY-FM jock was also arrested. I guess he told his audience "sorry, got to go. I,ve just been busted"

    • Turns out he got a suspended sentence and a slap on the hand $500 court costs (see update with newspaper article). But he lost his radio gig. I don't know if he recovered from that and had any other radio experience.
