10/30/2015 Mr. Music Man – Duane Smart
Tommy Facenda recorded High School U.S.A for Frank Guida’s LeGrand label in 1959. A song Guida wrote. Atlantic Records licensed the recording and in total there were 28 versions of the song released, covering the major markets. The original version was recorded is stereo, but all the subsequent versions were in mono. On a whim one day I decided to edit together the “stereo version” with the Seattle Portland version to make this composite stereo/mono version. Back when the late Danny Holiday was doing his oldies show on KSER-FM, out of Everett, I emailed him a copy. It knocked his sox off. First off, he didn’t know the original version was in stereo and loved the composite I edited. He used it on his show. Frank Guida is the same man who discovered Gary “US” Bonds. This was Tommy’s only Billboard charting record. It reached #28.

Was the audio of this Northwest version of the song actually to be posted here? I'm not seeing it...
