A lot of history at that small radio station. Catch this story at PugetSoundRadio.com.

* I worked at KONP for the original owner. A Mom Pop operation. Very nice people and a decent station in a nice town. I had been offered a position at the competing station, KAPY–owned by Charles Herring. When I got up to town Herring told me he had hired someone else. He called George Buck, owner of KONP and recommended Buck hire me. Done! Good times. This was my boss at KONP. George Buck thought the future technology for station operations called for recording commercials on tape cassettes. That was one quirky thing about the operation. PLEASE BE KIND – REWIND!
At KONP, we carried the Seahawks games — George saved on line costs by picking up the KIRO-AM signal on a portable radio he kept in his garage at is house. Local phone connection from garage to station at no cost. But, when the evening shadows fell and the broadcast pattern for KIRO changed, the signal got very fuzzy on that portable radio. A call to George to have him move the radio slightly to clear up the static. There were probably a couple other unconventional things about that small town station, but that was 46 years ago and I’ve got a little fuzz and static in my memory…
